COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY
MARGARET WATSON MBACP REGISTERED
I am interested in psychotherapy as being an empowerment process in which the therapist is not an expert on you, but instead someone who will work with you to seek deeper understanding of your own way of being by actively listening and exploring with you the meaning that you may be searching for in your life.
Counselling or Psychotherapy can sound daunting when already juggling pressures of survival and social interaction. Navigating and maintaining a professional or social media profile within a busy life schedule can be challenging. In my practice I offer a confidential and non-judgemental space to explore this. I am aware of the difficulties in managing online dating and relationships and how isolating this can become when old and unhelpful insecurities and patterns of behaviour are triggered. I am also acutely aware of how many of us have been affected by trauma of some kind which may have unconsciously influenced the way we respond to others in day to day situations.
Just seeing these features from a different perspective and disclosing them to someone who is not a friend or family can help to unravel some of the complexities of your experiences.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is key, so I offer a reduced fee for the first session so that we can assess whether we both feel that we can work together. I offer counselling which tends to be more short term work, dealing with immediate issues, exploring the connections with early attachments and behaviour and also psychotherapy, which is longer term and looks more deeply into those historic factors which may have impacted on your life.
Therapy may not be good for everyone. In my experience its benefits are best revealed to those who have made the decision to make changes in their life and are willing to engage in collaboration with the therapist to work through them. It is not always an easy process, but I believe that we all have inner resources which are sometimes difficult to engage with on our own.
I am a qualified Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a Registered Member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I worked from 2011 to end of 2018 in a busy agency setting offering counseling and psychotherapy to both men and women. I have been in private practice since 2018 to the present.
As an Integrative Counsellor I have trained in several therapeutic approaches and use skills from the Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic and Gestalt models.
At present I have rooms in Clapham Common, London.
